With the final of the World Test Championship set to take place in June next year, only half of the matches have been played so far due to the corona. The ICC has now announced that a new rule has been introduced to select the teams that will advance to the final, as only 85 per cent of the matches will be played in total. The meeting, chaired by Anil Kumble, was reportedly attended by executives who unanimously supported the new rule. Thus, the Australian team with 296 points in the first place and the Indian team with 360 points remain in the second place.
The ICC said in a statement on the controversial rule: “It is considered that the matches for the World Test Championship series could not be completed as planned. It has been reported that only 85 per cent of matches are likely to be played due to the corona. Therefore, we have laid down a new rule so that there is no problem in selecting the teams that will advance to the finals. ”
“Under this rule, all matches that do not take place will be considered a draw. The teams will be selected for the final only on the basis of the current rankings, ”the ICC statement said. Thus the teams with the highest percentage of points are in the lead.
