Mumbai (Mid-day). Karan Tiwari, a Mumbai club cricketer, was found dead in his Malad (East) home on Monday night. According to a friend, Karan Tiwari died because he could not make it to any of the eight teams of IPL 2020. The Mumbai cricketer was known as Junior Dale Steyn in local cricket.
Karan Tiwari’s action and stature met South African bowler Dale Steyn, so he was called Junior Dale Steyn. Karan Tiwari, 27, hanged by hanging from the fan. According to the police, Karan Tiwari has committed suicide at Gokuldham Konu Compound at 10:30 pm. The police have registered. Senior police inspector of Kurar police station has said, “We have filed ADR (Accidental Death Report) and the investigation of the case is going on.”
According to sources in the Quraar police, Karan was depressed after not being selected in the IPL starting in the UAE from 19 September. Sources said, ‘Karan telephoned his best friend in Udaipur and told that he was going to commit suicide. He was depressed after not getting a chance to play in the IPL. His friend informs Karan’s sister who lives in the same city. Her sister told her mother, but by then it was too late. Karan was declared dead before reaching the hospital.
As per BCCI rules, only players who have represented the state team in any age group are eligible to enter the IPL auction. Karan had never played a first-class, list or T20 match for the state. However, Karan often bowled for IPL teams at the Wankhede Stadium last season. He did not get a chance to be selected in the team, as he did not meet the BCCI rules.
One of Karan’s close friends said, ‘He was hoping to be selected for a state team. He was negotiating in this regard. He was a very promising cricketer and had uploaded videos of his bowling and batting on WhatsApp. The shocking thing is that he chose to take such a drastic step. ‘ Police sources also said that Karan was tense, as he had no job.
