England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes has said that his father had cancer and that it troubled him mentally and that is why he left the middle of the Test series against Pakistan because he wanted to be with his family. Stokes’s father Gerard was ill in South Africa. After returning home from there, he came to know about the disease.
Stokes played the first Test match against Pakistan, but after that he was not in the remaining two Tests.
Stokes, however, is in isolation in New Zealand due to Kovid-19.
Stokes told the New Zealand Herald, “I hadn’t slept for a week and my mental state was not good either. For me, leaving the team was the best option from my perspective.”
Regarding the father’s impact on his career, Stokes said, “He was tough for me but as I grew older I understood that it all happened for one reason or the other. He knew that I was a I want to be a professional sportsman and as soon as I started a career, they were applying it to me. ”
