IPL 2020: Chinese mobile company Vivo recently concluded a title sponsor deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Vivo may return as an IPL title sponsor next year. The BCCI will now have to find a new sponsor for this session. Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali has also shown interest in becoming the main sponsor of IPL 2020.
Vivo’s departure as the main sponsor of the IPL this year could allow another company to become the main sponsor of the world’s most expensive T20 league for a season. According to ET’s report, Patanjali can also bid for the sponsor of the IPL. Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala has said, “We are considering sponsorship of IPL for this year as we want to give the Patanjali brand a global platform.” Patanjali is considering making an offer to the BCCI.
Earlier it was coming out that e-commerce or e-learning companies were coming forward to sponsor IPL. At the same time, Jio and Tata Group have also shown interest in it, because after a long time a big event is happening. There has not been a single event for the last 6 months, through which companies can promote themselves. In such a situation, big companies have the opportunity to partner with world class leagues like IPL and take their brand to global market.
Earlier, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that Vivo’s exit as the title sponsor for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) should not be seen as a financial crisis. He had said that one should be prepared for such decisions and should keep his other options open. However, one thing is certain that the amount that BCCI used to get from Vivo for one season, may not get that much from this new sponsor.
